The nature trail view is beautiful, there were a few cactus blooming but only got to see a small lizard no mountain lions or snakes this trip. ![]() I absolutely loved the combination of history and geology wrapped into one. In 1905 a tunnel was excavated to mine the guano until it ran out. As fertilizer it was a valuable commodity. But there were riches inside that the robbers did not appreciate: Bat guano. The Cave became legendary when train robbers used it as a hideout after pulling a job. But know those stairs are mostly spread out and not all at once. He rediscovered the Cave in 1879 while searching for stray cattle. Maybe it was because I tried to see if there truly were 343(?) stairs and hiking and counting tripped me up. But I was a goofball show off who got burned. And Saida gifted me some water to help me out. The last trek back up the stairs, we initially went down, were a little tough. We enjoyed the tour and it wasn’t too long or hard for my weak lungs. There were no promises of Bats but it would’ve been nice to awaken them. She was very upbeat the entire time, informative and had a few cool tricks up her sleeve. I would think that especially at the end of this pandemic that any attraction would be doing all they can to draw in customers and make sure they are treating them fairly and with respect.Saida was an Amazing tour guide. This was a extremely bad experience, I haven’t encountered anyone on our entire vacation that was as rude or intent on not accommodating customers as the people working today at colossal caves. Sadly this is our last day in tuscon and we decided to leave as it was clear the staff didn’t have any intent on serving us as customers. She said it would take too long to process and move up our tickets. An on-site café sells craft beers, wines, and snacks. The park offers opportunities for hiking, biking, horseback riding, and camping. The cave system has 3.5 miles of mapped passages. The 10am tour left with 9 spots available and even as they were leaving we asked again if we could go and the lady at the cash register said no. Another lady who was the tour guide asked if we could be added to the group and/or go on the 10:30 tour. Tucson, Arizona will be our home for a month, so we decided to kick off our adventure by spending the day at Colossal Cave Mountain Park. We asked if we could be added to the group since 9 people hadn’t showed up and they said no. There were 9 empty spots out of twenty in the 10 am tour group. The tour at 10am was about to leave and they had said it was sold out. The lady at the cash register along with the gentleman were incredibly rude and acted like bullies toward us. ![]() He then told me that it wasn’t his choice to be in the Tuscon passport and he wished they were never in it. When I told them it wasn’t on their website, a gentleman who was in the office told me that there is way too much to put in their website and they couldn’t possibly do that. This is not stated on their website or the Tuscon passport site. They told us that we were supposed to purchase tickets online and then come in with the coupon and get a refund. We also tried to call and was told today that their phone have been down for three days. Yesterday we tried to order tickets online for the 10am cave tour, but there was no way to redeem our passport discount. We purchased the Tuscon passport for the local attractions. We are visiting from Maryland and had planned on visiting Colossal Caves.
